Importance of Working with a Construction Safety Harness

If you own a construction site and have a large number of people working on it for you then having the right of construction safety harnesses deployed at the construction site should remain of prime importance to you as you certainly do not wish to have unwanted accidents and injuries at the workplace.

Do you know what is the most common type of injury that happens at the construction sites?

According to several studies, most of the workers reported injuries due to falls at the construction sites, which is also one of the major causes of deaths at the construction site.
It is important for a construction site owner to provide adequate safety harness to its employees. It is mandatory to provide personal protective equipment that prevents falls if the workers are working under the following circumstances:
• The site where structures above 7 feet are being built and the chances or worker falling are high.
• Thrust outs, trusses, beams, purlins, or plates at heights over 15 feet
• If the height of sloped roof surfaces is above 15 feet
In order to prevent accidental falls at the construction site, industrial safety equipment like guardrails and toe boards or other effective barriers should be used. In areas where guardrails and barriers are not feasible, proper safety harnesses should be provided to the worker along with another kind of personal fall protection systems or positioning devices to ensure safety.
When it comes ensuring safety against falls for the employees at the construction site, there are two kinds of personal fall protection systems that a company can use.
Personal Fall Arrest System
This type of personal fall arrest system stops the worker from hitting the lower level or any structure in the fall situation. This kind of system comes with an anchorage, full body harness and a connector that allows them to stop in time before hitting the ground. Sometimes it also includes the lanyard, a deceleration device, a lifeline or a combination of all these depending on the height at which worker is working.
Personal Fall Restraint System
A personal fall restraint system is used for preventing falls as it restrains the worker from getting too close to the unprotected edge. Apart from the full body harness, this system comes with full body belt, anchorages, and connectors. Lifelines, rope grabs and lanyards can also be added to this system.
However, no matter how safe they may seem there are always chances of fails and in such a condition safety nets must be used to ensure the safety of the worker.
Remember that it’s the duty of the employer to ensure that there are temporary floors set up with toe boards, guardrails, physical barriers and more to ensure fall protection for the workers.
Fall conditions at work may lead to some serious injuries which may bring very unpleasant attention and mat also lead to inquiry against the employer.

It is important that you make sure that the people your service provider employs and the techniques it uses are skilled enough to pull off a satisfactory job overall.

Business Building Maintenance

The first thing that many people notice about a business is how well it is maintained. Even simple things like well landscaped grounds and fresh paint can be a major factor in attracting customers. Unfortunately, weeds can quickly get out of control and paint can fade and chip without the notice of the business owner. And few business owners have the time to spend to take care of these problems. This is why every company should consider hiring a building maintenance service.
Types
There are many different kinds of building up-keep services to choose from. Regular service would provide window cleaning, door and lock repairs, and painting. Landscaping is also an important maintenance service that cannot be ignored. Other important kinds of maintenance are electrical, heating and cooling, and plumbing.
Benefits
The benefits of hiring a building maintenance service are numerous. The most obvious one is that business owners will not have to concern themselves with the appearance and upkeep of the buildings and can instead focus on running their businesses in the most efficient and profitable way. If an owner tried to maintain his or her own business, it would merely cost him a lot of time and money and soon frustrate him, because he would lack the necessary equipment.
Tips
The first thing to determine before hiring someone to provide this service is whether to hire a recurring service or if you just need an on-call service. Landscaping, cleaning, and inspection would most likely be set up in a recurring basis, while other companies such as roofers would only be called if a problem came up. Another important thing is the qualification of the maintenance establishment and its employees. Hiring inexperienced workers might seem like a good way to save money, but it will mostly result in an unsatisfactory job. A good building maintenance company should have liability insurance to protect them (and you) from any problems that might occur. Hiring a company to assist your business with sustaining well maintained grounds and space is not something that every business should do, but it is certainly something that every business owner should consider.

Home Improvement Maintenance Tips - Increase Property Value and Save Money

Home ownership is an investment just like any other, and with most investments you generally get out of them what you put in. If you make home improvements and take proper care of your property and its equipment, you increase the value of the home and extend the life of your property.
Home Improvement Maintenance Tips
  • One of the first home improvement maintenance tips is to change your HVAC filter often. If your unit has the type of filter you can clean and replace, be sure to perform this task regularly. The unit runs more efficiently which prolongs its life. It also uses less energy.

  • Have an HVAC system checkup at least once yearly. Twice is better, once just before the height of the cooling season and again just before winter.

  • If your home has gutters, they need to be cleaned out regularly. Debris, leaves, nests, etc. accumulate and if not removed periodically will break down and decompose, causing damage to your gutters and possibly your roof and fascia. Additionally, water will become trapped and unable to escape, causing moisture problems, which defeats the purpose of the gutters in the first place.

  • Outdoor maintenance is important, too. Picking up loose limbs and keeping leaves raked and burned is easier if done regularly rather than letting it build up to an intense and time consuming job. Your landscape needs to be cared for just as your home does.

  • Weatherstripping may need to be replaced around doors and windows for increased energy efficiency and utility bill savings. Insulation may need to be inspected to see if an upgrade is needed.

  • The roof requires regular inspection for leaks and missing, loose, or damaged shingles. Water is one of the worst enemies of a property, and if allowed to seep through the roof it can cause mold, mildew, structural damage, not to mention what it can do to your interior and personal belongings.

  • Some tasks in your home are best left to professionals, such as with your HVAC and electrical systems. If you are not properly educated in electrical wiring, it is advised to avoid shock or electrocution by allowing a trained professional to work on your wiring. Improper wiring can also cause electrical fires, possibly resulting in loss of your home.

  • Termites favor moist and dark conditions, and you can deter them by routing water away from your foundation. Also avoid placing wood piles up against the building; if you store firewood, store it away from the residence. Hire a professional exterminator to do regular termite inspections; it can end up saving you a lot of money later if any problems are detected early.

  • Discourage mold growth by controlling the humidity in your home. A dehumidifier and a system to control temperature (air conditioner) both help prevent mold. Any time there is a leak, flood, or other type of water problem, it needs to be handled quickly to avoid spreading mold and mildew throughout your home. Moisture, remember is one of the biggest enemies of a home.
Performing home improvement maintenance does require some expense and time. It is a good idea to sock some money away each month as a part of your budget to put in a home maintenance account. Then when funds are needed for improvements and maintenance, it isn't such a hardship thanks to the money you've set aside for this purpose.
Should you decide to sell your home or remain in it yourself, taking good care of it all along will definitely pay off in the end.
